Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.
FOCUS :
As long as we are still living in this world, we have many things that will be drawing us to things of the world. However, the world is full of many confusion and dilution. The devil has a ways of occupying the hearts of the people of this world with vanity wisdom.
Psalms 12:2
They speak vanity every one with his neighbour: with flattering lips and with a double heart do they speak.
In addition, when you put your heart on the things from above, God has a way of increasing you in His “Devine Wisdom”; to enable you to walk through the journey of life. Even though you are walking through you need to stay focused, otherwise, the activities that the devil has implemented in the world can easily shift you from the path of righteousness and distract you from fulfilling God’s purpose for your life.
Romans 12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
Finally, when Bro Paul, said we should set our affection only on the things above; it is simply because there is absolutely nothing long lasting to benefit in this world and there is no gain if we are busy chasing after worldly materials things, money, riches, wealth, positions, titles, fames, popularity etc.. of this world. Because the world can only enticed you and lures you into the trap of your doom; and of course, you are doomed forever. Yes, we are living in this world, working this world, and walking in this world: but the truth is, you don’t belong to this world. Let everything in your heart remain always FOCUS on the things on above.
Psalms 62:8-10 Trust in him at all times; ye people, pour out your heart before him: God is a refuge for us. Selah. Surely men of low degree are vanity, and men of high degree are a lie: to be laid in the balance, they are altogether lighter than vanity. Trust not in oppression, and become not vain in robbery: if riches increase, set not your heart upon them.
Proverbs 13:11
Wealth gotten by vanity shall be diminished: but he that gathereth by labour shall increase.
