(TEXT : 1 Samuel 15:23)
For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, he hath also rejected thee from being king.
FOCUS :
We are going to be continued from where we stopped yesterday on this series. Yesterday we established the fact that the generation of Korah, Dathan and Abiram ganged up against the authority of God in the life of Moses and ganged up against the High Priesthood of Christ Jesus through the life of Aaron. Rebellion it’s a terrible spirit that when it possessed a man or a women, it will only take the mercy of God for he or she not be doomed.
Numbers 16:11 For which cause both thou and all thy company are gathered together against the LORD: and what is Aaron, that ye murmur against him?
Let it ever be known, when we pervert the Word of the Lord, this put us “against the Lord”: and Moses was even trying to say that, Aaron is just a poor, weak human being, attempting to carry out the Work of the Lord. While they thought they were opposed to Aaron, in truth, they were opposed to the Lord. When we oppose that which is of God, we have, in essence, opposed God.
In addition, we could see explicitly that this three generations ultimately and deliberately brought the wrath of God upon their innocent children and families by the reason of their wrong actions. They rebelled against the leadership of men that God Himself sent to them who are (God’s representatives) in their midst; and even rebelled against God that they can’t see who sent those representatives to instruct them, direct them, guide them, lead them and to bring them to the Promised Land.
Finally, Numbers 16:6-7 This do; Take you censers, Korah, and all his company; And put fire therein, and put incense in them before the LORD to morrow: and it shall be that the man whom the LORD doth choose, he shall be holy: ye take too much upon you, ye sons of Levi.
The “ensers” were used by the Priest, and especially the High Priest, at it regarded the Holy Place. Where the Table, the Lampstand, and the Altar of Incense were. They spoke of the Intercession of Christ, on all behalf of Believers. So in effect, these individuals were claiming they could serve in this capacity the same as Aaron. They should have remembered what happened to Nadab and Abihu. To sure, their sin was even worse than that of these tow Priests, who had been stricken dead by the Lord. Rebellious man, however, always seeks to put a religious face on his erroneous direction.
Leviticus 10:1-2 And Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron, took either of them his censer, and put fire therein, and put incense thereon, and offered strange fire before the LORD, which he commanded them not. And there went out fire from the LORD, and devoured them, and they died before the LORD.
