(TEXT : 2 Kings 4:3)
Then he said, Go, borrow thee vessels abroad of all thy neighbours, even empty vessels; borrow not a few.
FOCUS :
For God to help you, you have to empty yourself before Him; and which will bring us to the next thing we are about to learn about this widow. Elisha told the woman: “even empty vessels; borrow not a few.” Elisha did not ask the widow woman to borrow filled vessels but she should borrow “empty ones.” The reason is that, if you want God to help you out of your trouble, you must have to be empty for God to be able to carry you. If you are loaded, you will be so heavy to be carried for Him. You don’t come before God forming or pretending to be what you are not in His presence. You must be completely naked before Him! The widow woman in the real sense she came out to Elisha “naked or better still empty;” meaning, she was not shy, ashamed, afraid, or timid to approach the man of God about her current situation with her two sons. And of course, her long time shame became a story of celebration with her two sons.
In addition, every child of God must learn to always come before God “empty;” because there are some steps God will ask you to take, and if you are not empty, you won’t be able to accomplish them. When you are empty, you will be able to approach the “Throne of Grace to be able to obtain Mercy” in the time of needs or for God “to clear your debt for you.”
Finally, “the widow woman was asked not to borrow few vessels;” the bigger you want your breakthrough to be, the bigger you should not borrow few vessels. The widow’s neighbors could have just said that they want to use their vessels too and that they are not borrowing the widow. But they did borrowed her, because they are of the same “Godly minded” people in the neighborhood. The neighbors gave the widow woman their empty vessels, because they are willing to stretch out their hands of help in the time of needs and because the widow woman had naked herself before God. God can use anybody to cover your nakedness in your time of needs, to give you empty vessels. For example: such I just feel like dashing you house, God sent me to you to build you a house or God instructed me to take you out of the country. When you opened before God, God will cover your nakedness and shame for you.
