INCREASE OF WIDOW’S OIL (PART 1)

(TEXT : 2 Kings 4:1)
Now there cried a certain woman of the wives of the sons of the prophets unto Elisha, saying, Thy servant my husband is dead; and thou knowest that thy servant did fear the LORD: and the creditor is come to take unto him my two sons to be bondmen.

FOCUS :

In the next few days, we will be discussing about this widow, her two sons the creditor, the instructions Elisha gave her and her sons; and the outcome of her obedience to the man of God. There is absolutely nothing good in someone living in debt. Because even living in debt brings one shame, setback, reproach, disgrace and depression. The widow in question was not the one who was owing the creditor; her husband did before he died and left the wife and the two sons in the debt. In fact, the only first thing we can always remember this woman for is that “she is heavily in debt.” No father name, no introduction of where she is coming from or who she was even when her husband was still alive. You know, it very easy how people can easily go about tagging you with a “shameful names” and they get not to be blamed for such. Unfortunately, we aren’t told how much the debt was and how long they have been owing the creator; but the first introduction of her and her two sons was, “there is absolutely no way out of them paying back the debt if not for divine intervention.”

In addition, there is some intimation that this woman’s husband, one of the sons of Prophets, was known to Elisha. Many Christian is like this widow. They are in depression, poverty, and bandage in their lives; instead of Joy, wealth, and liberty. The truth is: the plight of home was not God’s will. It is God’s will that we be in health and prosper, even as our soul does prosper. Satan never ceases in his efforts to deprive the child of God of his or her rightful inheritance in Christ Jesus. Poverty is never our portion and every child of God must refuse, reject, disallowed, disagree and rebuked it; because it is a demon from Satan.

3 John 1:2-4 Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth. For I rejoiced greatly, when the brethren came and testified of the truth that is in thee, even as thou walkest in the truth. I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.

Finally, 2 Kings 4:2 And Elisha said unto her, What shall I do for thee? tell me, what hast thou in the house? And she said, Thine handmaid hath not any thing in the house, save a pot of oil.

Now this will bring us to the very first key pont of this (part 1) today. Elisha asked: “WHAT SHALL I DO FOR YOU?” What do you want God to do with your poverty situation right now? God is asking you the same question; what do you think it will be your response? Yes, you have been through tough times, rough situations, and even countless humiliation of those who supposed to be carrying you with respect; but guess what, there is no respect for him or her who’s name has been dragged in the record of public debt. However, don’t give up, as long as God keeps asking you questions, you just keep providing answers and your story will soon be changed. Satan might have succeeded in taking away your reputation, personality, identification, relationship with people; but don’t allow him to take away your “FELLOWSHIPPING WITH GOD.”
